Jinghao New Energy is carrying out the space application verification of perovskite solar modules: they have been operating stably in orbit for over three months

Time:2025-03-19

Recently, the perovskite solar modules independently developed by Jinghao New Energy are undergoing in-orbit testing. After more than three months of in-orbit operation, it still maintains stable electrical performance, demonstrating excellent environmental adaptability and long-term reliability. Prior to this, the in-orbit tests of three satellites had already been completed. This breakthrough marks a crucial step for China in the field of new aerospace photovoltaic technology and provides important technical support for the future application of perovskite photovoltaics on spacecraft.

Technical Breakthrough: Perovskite Solar Modules withstand Extreme Space Environments

The in-orbit operating environment of spacecraft is extremely harsh. Solar cells need to withstand strong ultraviolet radiation, bombardment by high-energy particles, a vacuum environment, and drastic temperature changes (ranging from -100°C to 120°C) for a long time. Traditional aerospace photovoltaic modules mainly use gallium arsenide (GaAs) or silicon (Si). However, these materials are costly, have complex manufacturing processes, and are relatively heavy in mass. In contrast, perovskite solar cells have become an important direction for the new generation of aerospace energy technology due to their advantages of high efficiency, light weight, and low cost.

The initial photoelectric conversion efficiency of the perovskite module tested in orbit this time exceeds 20%. It has withstood the test of long-term orbital flight and still operates stably in extreme environments without obvious performance degradation. The test results show that perovskite photovoltaic technology can not only adapt to the harsh conditions of space but also demonstrate good durability and reliability, providing a continuous and stable energy supply for spacecraft.

Towards the Future: Perovskite Photovoltaics Powering the Innovation of Aerospace Energy

The success of this in-orbit verification has laid the foundation for the promotion of perovskite photovoltaic technology in aerospace applications such as low-Earth orbit satellites, deep space probes, space stations, and flexible photovoltaic sails. Compared with traditional photovoltaic modules, perovskite solar cells are lighter in weight and lower in manufacturing cost. At the same time, they are applicable to deployable solar wings and flexible photovoltaic systems, which is expected to significantly improve the energy acquisition efficiency of spacecraft.

Jiangyin Jinghao New Energy has long been dedicated to the research and development and industrialization of high-performance perovskite solar cell modules. The success of this aerospace application verification has further consolidated the company's leading position in the field of aerospace photovoltaic technology. In the future, Jiangyin Jinghao will continue to promote the optimization and upgrading of perovskite photovoltaic technology, explore its applications in more complex aerospace environments, and contribute to the high-quality development of China's aerospace science and technology.
